COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 7, 2021) – USA Volleyball’s National Team Development Program (NTDP) has made the difficult decision to cancel its 2021 Indoor High Performance Championship, scheduled for July 21-25 in Phoenix.
The USA Volleyball High Performance Championship puts the spotlight on boys and girls teams from the USAV National Team Development Program, regional high performance teams, and teams from foreign countries. The tournament follows international rules and procedures to give athletes and coaches a glimpse of the next level of competition.
The cancelation of the 2021 event is due to low registration numbers from both region and international teams, all related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Although we are disappointed that we will not play in Phoenix, we are already shifting our focus to making the 2022 High Performance Championship the best yet,” USAV Chief of Sport Peter Vint said. “We are excited by the possibility that we can increase the field of international and region teams.”
In place of the 2021 HP Championship, NTDP staff is planning a five-day summer training series, July 19-23 in Anaheim, Calif., to provide a high-quality development experience for selected athletes. Invitations to athletes and families will be delivered soon.
