Beach National Team Training Group IC Coach
Mike Dodd is a Beach National Team Training Group independent contractor coach. He’s currently a coach with MBSand out of southern California.
Dodd is one of the best beach volleyball players in history. He won silver in Atlanta 1996 and has 75 tournament victories. He won five Manhattan Beach Open titles with longtime partner Tim Hovland and was twice named AVP Sportsman of the Year (1994, 1996).
After retiring as a player in 1997, Dodd remained involved in beach volleyball. He’s served as a broadcaster, coach and commissioner of the AVP. He’s found success as a coach, becoming the first person to coach both the men’s and women’s champions of the Manhattan Beach Open (Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal and Nicole Branagh/Elaine Youngs). He coached Gibb/Rosenthal at 2008 Beijing and 2012 London. The duo also became 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Tour champions under his tutelage.
Before his beach career, Dodd was a two-sport star at San Diego State, playing both basketball and indoor volleyball. He was selected in the 1979 NBA draft but chose to pursue beach volleyball.
In 2012, Dodd was enshrined in the International Volleyball Hall of Fame.
