Men's Sitting Team Makes Quick Work of Serbia

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 6, 2022) – The U.S. Men’s Sitting Team finished pool play 2-1 after sweeping Serbia (25-17, 25-22, 25-13) on Sunday at the World ParaVolley World Championships in Sarajevo.

The U.S. Men will play Iraq (1-2) in the crossover match at 4:30 a.m. CT on Monday. The winner of that match will advance to the quarterfinals. The loser will move to the classification rounds.

The U.S. Men’s Sitting Team beat Serbia for the first time since the 2010 World Championships in Oklahoma, when it won in five sets. Things went much faster on Sunday.

The U.S. Men led Serbia in kills (32-15) and aces (7-0). Serbia led in blocks (9-4).

“Our setting with John Kremer has been good and we’re running tempo across the board,” opposite Eric Duda said. “Our serving was putting a lot of pressure on Serbia. It was amazing that they were out of system so much.”

Coach Joe Skinner was happy with the extra rest time the team will have, thanks to the sweep.

“We took care of business when we needed to,” he said. “It’s allowing us to get extra rest to prepare for tomorrow.”

Outside hitter Zach Upp led all scorers with 14 points on a match-high four aces along with nine kills and one block.

Duda finished with 10 points on a match-high 10 kills. He also led the team in receptions with 17, 35 percent positive.

Middle blocker Roderick Green scored eight points on six kills, one block and one ace. Outside hitter James Stuck finished with seven points on four kills, a team-high two blocks and one ace.

Outside hitter Chris Seilkop score three points on three kills. Sam Surowiec played as a substitute and score a point.

Libero Nicholas Dadgoster had five receptions, 80 percent positive.
