Brady Starkey took over as head coach at Concordia St. Paul in 2003 and has created one of the best dynasties in all collegiate sports at any level.
In 17 seasons with the NCAA Division II Golden Bears, Brady holds a 550-66 record through the 2019 season. He has mentored Concordia St. Paul to nine NCAA Division II titles, including a record-breaking seven consecutive titles from 2007 to 2013. Concordia St. Paul’s title in 2007 was the first NCAA Division II women’s team title in the history of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, which is now arguably the toughest conference in Division II.
At one point the Golden Bears won 43 consecutive NCAA postseason matches. Concordia St. Paul is 72-8 with Brady leading the team.
Brady is the winningest active volleyball coach in any division based on an .893 win efficiency, including a record-breaking 75-match win streak and a 44-match win streak.
In addition to the record nine NCAA Division II titles, Brady has advanced the Golden Bears to a NCAA runner-up finish in his first year at the helm and 11 South Central Region Championships. Concordia St. Paul has never failed to reach the NCAA tournament in Brady’s 17 years and the Golden Bears won at least 30 matches in his first 11 seasons and 13 overall.
Brady has been recognized as AVCA Division II National Coach of the Year three times, AVCA Region Coach of the Year eight times and NSIC six times. The Golden Bears have won the NSIC title 14 times with six undefeated conference seasons.
Concordia St. Paul has produced 56 AVCA All-Americans, including 27 first-team selections, under Brady’s leadership. Two of his players have earned AVCA Division II National Player of Year honors.
