Sitting referees are the ones calling the shots during a sitting volleyball match. They enforce the rules, initiate play, and ensure safety of all participants. Being a beach referee requires long periods of alertness and focus, swift judgement, and a decisive nature. It also requires exposure to the elements as referees can be outside all day during tournaments. As a referee, you allow thousands to participate in the sport we all love. Without you, there is no sitting volleyball.

Levels of Sitting Refereeing
Sitting referees may officiate domestic sitting volleyball matches.
To become a sitting referee, referees must have begun the process for earning provisional indoor referee certification in addition to taking coursework on officiating sitting volleyball.
International sitting referees may officiate international-level matches for World ParaVolley, the international governing body for sitting volleyball and other variants of volleyball for impaired athletes.
To become an international sitting referee, candidates must also hold National Indoor Referee certification with USA Volleyball. Contact officials@usav.org for more information on how to become an international sitting referee.

Standing indoor referee education courses are available at on the USA Volleyball Academy.
