COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 26, 2016) – The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team overpowered the Dominican Republic, 25-16, 25-17, 25-21, to win Pool A and a berth in the semifinals of the NORCECA Boys’ U19 Continental Championship in Havana, Cuba.
The U.S. improved to 3-0 in the tournament and, along with Pool B winner Cuba, will await the winners of Monday’s quarterfinals between Nicaragua and Jamaica and also Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The top two finishers will advance to the 2017 FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship.
The U.S. led Dominican Republic in kills (36-16), blocks (6-2) and aces (8-1), and made 25 unforced errors whereas the Caribbean made 35.
Jaylen Jasper, Samuel Lewis and Kyler Presho each scored 10 points for the United States.
