COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 24, 2020) – Players from Texas, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee won gold on Thursday in three divisions of the 2020 USA National Beach Tour Junior Championship in Huntsville, Ala.
USA Volleyball is holding the championship in partnership with Rally Volleyball Club, the Huntsville Sports Commission and the City of Huntsville.
Almost 350 girls and boys beach teams from 27 states are registered to compete in the championship being held at John Hunt Park.
Finals were held Thursday in the Girls 12U and 16U and Boys 16U divisions.
The Girls 16U winners were Maggie Boyd and Gabrielle Walker of Flower Mound, Texas. They defeated Jourdan Boulware (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Ashley Peter (Bradenton, Fla.), 21-18, 21-18 in the final.
Kylie Wickley/Alexis Durish, both of San Antonio, Texas, tied with Jasmine Haas (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jacqueline Carpenter (Dublin, Ohio) for third place. The Girls 16U Division started with 112 teams.
The Boys 16U winners were Gavin Blanchette (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Tate Colebaugh (Owens Cross Roads, Ala.) who beat Kenneth Felts (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Ajani Henley (Marietta, Ga.) in the final, 21-17, 21-15.
Gabriel Hartwell (Wichita, Kan.) and Clayton Elliott (Goldsby, Okla.) took third place, defeating Jack Turner (Zionsville, Ind.) and Jay Miller (Yorktown, Ind.), 21-13, 21-19. Ten teams started the division.
The Girls 12U Division started with 34 teams. Katrina Oswald and Sara Smedley of Louisville, Ky., won the gold with a 19-21, 21-18, 15-11 victory in the final over Bella and Dreya Scherfenberg of Harrisonville, Mo.
Rylee Woods (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Natalie Lorenzo (Mesa, Ariz.) took third place with a 16-21, 21-14, 15-8 win over Finley Saxon and Addie Micklos of Montgomery, Texas.
