Girls U19 Team Advances to 2023 Worlds Quarterfinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 7, 2023) – The U.S. Girls U19 National Team advanced to the FIVB World Championship quarterfinals on Monday by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 2-24) in Osijek, Croatia.

The U.S. Girls Team (6-0) will play Brazil (4-2) in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. The time has not yet been announced.

MATCH STATISTICS

The U.S. led the Dominican Republic in kills (40-28), blocks (5-3) and aces (8-4). The U.S. scored 23 points on Dominican errors while giving up 19.

Outside hitter Abby Vander Wal led the U.S. scoring with 13 points on 12 kills (.423 hitting efficiency) and one ace. Middle blocker Favor Anyanwu added 12 points on eight kills (.500) and a match-high three blocks.

Outside hitter Teraya Sigler finished with 11 points on 10 kills (.474) and one ace.

Campbell Flynn set the U.S. to a .398 hitting efficiency and scored five points on three kills and two aces.

Middle blocker Ayden Ames scored three points on three kills and opposite Abigail Mullen totaled three points on two aces and a kill.

Outside hitters Becca Kelley and Emerson Sellman each played as a substitute, and each scored one point.

Libero Olivia Mauch was credited with three digs and three successful receptions. Flynn and Sigler led in digs with five apiece and Sigler also led in receptions with five.

There are 24 teams from around the world competing at the World Championship.
