COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 4, 2019) – The U.S. men’s snow volleyball team of Troy Field/Riley McKibbin/Maddison McKibbin survived snow and high winds to qualify for the main draw on Thursday at the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour event in Plan de Corones/Kronplatz, Italy.
The U.S. team opened with a 12-15, 15-11, 15-7 win over Switzerland. In the second qualifying match, the trio beat Germany, 15-12, 15-3.
The victories mean that three U.S. teams will begin main draw competition on Friday.
The U.S. women’s team of Karissa Cook/Emily Hartong/Katie Spieler/Allie Wheeler, which took silver at last weekend’s event in Austria, will compete in pool play matches against Turkey (12:15 a.m. PT) and Japan (4:15 a.m. PT).
The U.S. men’s team of Chase Frishman/Travis Mewhirter/Chris Vaughan/Eric Zaun, which finished fifth in Austria, will play Slovenia (3:35 a.m. PT) and Russia (5:35 a.m. PT).
Field/M McKibbin/R McKibbin will play Austria (12:15 a.m. PT) and Italy (2:15 a.m. PT).
The weather is predicted to be snowy with a high of 38 degrees.
