COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 24, 2019) – The U.S. Women’s National Sitting Team cruised past Peru 25-6, 25-3, 25-10 on Saturday evening at the Callao Sports Center to open the Lima Parapan American Games with a victory.
Setter Kaleo Kanahele Maclay (Honolulu) scored a U.S.-best 12 points, all on aces to give the Americans a 19-0 advantage in the second set. Heather Erickson (Fayetteville, North Carolina) tallied seven points with three aces, three kills on as many attempts and a block. Lora Webster (Point Lookout, New York), Monique Burkland (Ardmore, Oklahoma) and Nichole Millage (Champaign, Illinois) all contributed five points. Katie Holloway (Lake Stevens, Washington), Nicky NIeves (Kissimmee, Florida) and Tia Edwards (Skiatook, Oklahoma) charted four points apiece. Jillian Williams (Odem, Teas) tallied three points, while Lexi Shifflett (Waseca, Minnesota) rounded out the scoring with two aces.
Liberos Bethany Zummo (Dublin, California) and Sydney Satchell (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) each played in two sets for the U.S.
Team USA had a 30-0 ace advantage in the victory and a 5-3 margin in blocks. The Americans converted 16 of 27 attacks for points with a .407 hitting efficiency behind the setting of Kanahele Maclay and Shifflett.
The U.S. Women, ranked No. 1 in the world, challenge Brazil on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET and Canada on Monday at noon ET.
The Parapan Am Games women’s sitting division semifinals are on the evening of Aug. 27, with the medal-round matches on Aug. 28.
